What’s Entertainment to You

Posted in Features on 25.08.11 by Merlyn

What is entertainment?  We seek various forms of entertainment from time to time to pass time, to take a break from life and to just have fun.  But what is it really?  Wikipedia defines entertainment:

At QuiBids, we definitely go for the fun and enjoyment factors.  We incorporate entertainment into online shopping because… well, it’s entertaining!  No really, but we do like where  Andrew Mason was going with this quote (in the July issue of Vanity Fair):

We want to take it a step further.  In the way that Amazon changed the way people buy products, we want to change the way people buy products while having a fun and exciting online experience!  Infusing elements of fun and enjoyment into one’s shopping experience may just make the experience that much more entertaining.  Way to bring us back to the beginning…

Fun E-commerce Sites – The Future Trend?

Posted in Features on 11.08.11 by Merlyn

Will there be more “fun” E-commerce sites gaining popularity in the future?  As the leading entertainment retail auction site, we sure hope so!  We constantly look for ways to incorporate more fun into our online services.

In the June issue of VanityFair, Mark Pincus (co-founder and CEO of Zynga; company behind many popular Facebook games such as FarmVille, CityVille and others) paraphrased that he believes consumers will be attracted to those sites that offer fun services.  Here’s a clip of his quote from the online version of the article.

Games and gaming of the like have taken consumers’ time by storm.  This can be seen from Facebook’s games to your advanced game systems (such as PS and Nintendo) to game apps on smart phones (such as Angry Birds or Harbor Master).  The games are endless and it seems as if a new one is produced every day.  However, you won’t hear anyone complaining.  Why?  Because we as consumers love to be entertained!  We enjoy playing and competing against our friends or even those of whom we’ve never met that might be half way around the world.  It’s exciting and nowadays, we give these forms of entertainment more value than traditional forms of entertainment. Oh how we miss the days of flying a kite!
